Fall Softball

Believe it or not, before this past August – I had never photographed any of Greater Atlanta Christian School’s many softball teams in the past four years I’ve worked with Martin Photography. So it was a new experience – although my photography at Midway Park has given a wide range of softball experience.

Multi-sport athletes are the norm at GAC. She’s also been prominent on the basketball court.

That’s the pitch passing in front of this fielder.

It’s actually more difficult to frame the low delivery of a fast pitch pitcher than a baseball pitcher.

Safe at the plate as the ball bounces free!

Soccer Splashdown

One of the things I’ll hear anytime when the weather turns for the worse – like it did at the 2010 Athens Invitational Tournament – is that people can’t believe I still photograph games in the rain.

I’m all-weather – and I’ve found some great photographs are there for the taking when the weather turns bad. This series was immediately after the tournament resumed following a one-hour long downpour that left the fields a little flooded!

Lucky Winner

Way back in August I donated a free action photography session to the Midway Wolverines Football Kick-Off Date. The lucky winners, the Bankston family, asked me to photograph their son Knight. Knight plays football at Liberty Middle School in Forsyth County.

Liberty took on Lakeview Middle School (also Forsyth County) in the match up. As with many Middle School games, it was a beautiful late afternoon start which meant great light throughout the game.

Knight plays offensive line. It’s unusual that you see Offensive Lineman pictures in newspapers or magazines – usually the “Action” of the game is more limited to the ball carriers. Look deeper – and there’s a lot going on at the line.

Unusual framing can be offered by the opponents. Lakeview’s purple and gold was a great contrast to the white of Liberty.

Shooting ultra-tight (with a 300mm/f2.8 lens, or with a 1.4 teleconverter on the same lens) let me focus on Knight taking on the defensive line rushing.

As the evening grew later, some great combinations of light and shadow put a spot light on Knight’s face as he ran through the light in between shadows.

35th Athens Invitational – August 21, 2010

≈Dennis Murray Photography was on-site at the 35th Athens Invitational Soccer Tournament in Athens, Georgia to provide action photography to participants.

All photographs posted represent only proofs of the final product. All will be cropped and color corrected prior to printing or digital file presentation for best quality.

A variety of sizes are available, as well as Digital Image Collections. Digital Image Collections contain all of an athlete’s photographs from the tournament presented on disc with a custom printed cover. Digital Image Files are at original resolution, without watermarking, suitable for reprinting at any size.

Soccer, No Vuvuzelas

Looking back over my work from the spring, I found a couple of photos from Greater Atlanta Christian School’s playoff match against Eagles Landing Christian Academy. Good action, no vuvuzelas.

I’m also pleased to announce I’ll be working with the Athens United Soccer Association (Athens, Georgia) this fall to photograph games during their three tournaments this fall. More details to come on this relationship and the events!
